Step 1. Trump says foreign powers are hacking into voting operations. Georgia was a practice run. Its likely that his craven DNI is already preparing the "evidence".This ties up things for weeks/months. Step 2. Mike Johnson refuses to seat new members of Congress. He has done it before. Once again, months of turmoil.

Confusion and delay are Trump's preferred environment . That is when he really can cause mischief. Maybe there will be riots and he can declare martial law. I put nothing past him and his toadies.

According to Robert Hubbell (Today’s Edition Newsletter on Substack), Mike Johnson’s term will end BEFORE the swearing in of the next Congress. He will have absolutely no role to play and will have no power to disrupt the swearing in of House members on Jan 3. 😁

Thanks for the info. One less thing to worry about.

While you may be right about the legality, I am TERRIFIED as are most of my friends and family! When has Trump EVER allowed the laws to prevent him from doing whatever he wants!? I fear that we may well be veering towards a second civil war! This situation is VERY serious and many people are NOT alarmed enough!

Isn’t 30,000 in a congressional district a floor, not a ceiling?

And now we return you to our regularly scheduled programming, in which Donald Trump threatens to bomb Oman for, well, no particular reason. Except that he likes committing illegal, unconstitutional, and war criminal acts. And the Omanis are less likely to return fire than the Iranians or the Houthis.

I don't share your confidence. The courts get a C- for their defense of democracy but they have been agonizingly slow. What happens when Trump sends Federal agents to polling locations or ballot counting centers with guns to seize ballots and arrest anyone who tries to stop them with obstruction of a federal officer? In the chaos and confusion, a few hours on election day or the day after is all the time they need.

It won’t work on me.

What if Trump decides to drop a nuke on Iran (not totally out of the realm of possibility) a week before the elections. Could that be a national emergency? Or cause a cascade of events to interfere/interrupt the elections?
